An agent is useful when it can call deterministic tools with an audit trail. It is not a substitute for approvals, inventory truth or a WMS.
A demo that "talks like a clerk" is not an operations agent. Production means named tools: create a ticket, fetch a document, post a draft for a human. Every call is logged. Every permission is the same permission the UI already uses.
If nobody can say who approves a contract or where stock sits, an agent will route work into the same fog. Fix the workflow in software first. Agents sit on a stable API, not on a pile of PDFs.
Posting to finance, shipping a pick or changing a price should stay a confirmed action. Agents draft and watch queues. They do not silently become the system of record.
List the tools, the audit events and the failure states. If the floor is the bottleneck, that is a WMS conversation. If the office is the bottleneck, that is custom software. The agent is a later increment.
